Degree Requirements
A degree of M.Sc.Engg./ M.Engg. in EEE may be awarded to a student during the program if he applies for it and
he completes minimum 36 credit hours of courses including successful completion of thesis/project to be
decided by the Program Director and approved by the Board of Postgraduate Studies (BPGS). The candidate must
also achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.75 on 4.0 scale to get the degree. The 36 credit hour may be of 24 credit hour
theory plus 12 credit hour of thesis of publishable research work for M.Sc.Engg. degree or 30 credit hour of theory
plus 6 credit hour of project work for M.Engg. degree.
There are three areas of specialization, namely (i) Electronics, (ii) Communications and (iii) Power Engineering.
The program Master of Science (M.Sc.Engg.) in EEE curriculum consists of a minimum of 36 credit hours including
15 credit hours from his/her area of specialization, 6 credit hours from the other areas and one compulsory course
of 3 credit hours namely Finance and Investment and Research based thesis of 12 credit hours. The break down of
credits for M.Sc.Engg. degree are as follows :
5 courses are from the area of his/her specialization : 15 credits
2 courses are from the other areas : 6 credits
1 compulsory course : 3 credits
Research based thesis : 12 credits
For Master of Engineering (M.Engg.) in EEE curriculum consists of a minimum of 36 credit hours including 18 credit
hours from his/her area of specialization, 9 credit hours from the other areas and one compulsory course of 3
credits namely Finance and Investments and industry based project work of 6 credits. The break down of credits
for M.Engg. degree are as follows :
6 courses are from the area of his/her specialization : 18 credits
3 courses are from the other areas : 9 credits
1 compulsory course : 3 credits
Industry based project work : 6 credits
Thesis/Project
Students must complete, document, present and defend a project or a thesis. During the first two semesters all
graduate students will be associated with a supervisor. Every student must complete a project of 6 credit hours or
a thesis of 12 credit hours describing research work of publishable quality. The thesis must be defended before a
committee consisting of the supervisor as the chairman and at least two other faculty members in the relevant
field to be decided by the BPGS of the department. The thesis defense is open to all interested faculty and
students.
